56 Years on Himeji’s Coast: Premium Tiger Prawns on Historic Salt Pans

In this video, we explore the prawn farming operations at Nakamura Suisan, a business founded in 1969 in Himeji City, Hyogo Prefecture. The primary reason these Japanese tiger prawns, also known as Kuruma Prawns, are of such high quality is the unique environment of the Matogata area. This region flourished through salt production from the Kamakura period until the early Showa period. Today, the prawns are raised in the former salt pan sites, where they thrive by consuming nutrient-rich plankton from the Seto Inland Sea. Furthermore, the specific climate of the Harima-nada sea contributes to the prawns developing a distinctively deep and beautiful color.
